Bergen ILO-group has a leading international role within the field of Induced Laryngeal Obstruction (ILO) research.

The group is made up of 40 researchers from different fields.

The objectives of Bergen ILO-group

1.

To increase recognition of the role of the larynx as a cause of breathing problems

2.

To promote consideration of the respiratory system as a whole in diagnostics

3.

To conduct targeted treatment of patients while reducing drug use 

Bergen ILO-group established the gold standard for diagnosis of ILO in 2006, and is currently developing new testing methods and treatments. So far, more than 3000 patients have been tested and treated.

The group has been crucial in establishing ILO clinics in several countries, notably England, USA and Australia.

Interdisciplinary collaboration (including veterinary medicine) has been the key to success and has driven scientific advancement in the group.
